Lisa St. Aubin de Teran once stated “Travelling is like being in love with Life. It’s as if saying “I would love to stay with you and keep it that way, but I have to go” La Bonne Vivante found this to be particularly relevant during our recent excursion on the Amalfil coast. She has fallen head over heels with the beauty of the coastline along with the food and people. The more you travel, the more difficult it gets to not be impressed by places. The Amalfi coast is beautiful and it’s difficult to not be awed in it. Southern Italian paradise. La Bonne Vivante can’t wait to share our tips on what to do and where!
Naples Naples If you are travelling by plane, you may be confronted by the question of how much time you’d like to spend a day in Naples because it tends to be a starting point for the majority. The answer to that question is…it depends. There are those who refer to Naples among the top cities of Europe. There is a lot of inequality in the economy everywhere and can be seen in the graffiti, the deteriorating façades and the total absence of top-quality Italian fashion shops. In the end, Naples exudes a very particular charme which seems a lot closer to Havanna than to sophisticated Rome or fashionable Milan. If you are looking to get a glimpse into the world of Naples’ beautiful coast line and see some of the authentic Italian south, it’s worth a visit.
Naples provides a variety of budget-friendly hotels. Hotel Oriente is situated in the middle of Naples. The hotel doesn’t appear to be much from the outside , but the interior has been renovated with great attention to detail and the rooms are modern and spacious. Breakfasts are served in the roof top terrace with boasts an amazing panorama of Naples.
Things to Do: Wander through the streets of Centro Storico (a Unesco world heritage) enjoy the ambience and dine on the waterfront at one of the many restaurants. From Naples take a rental car and drive towards the coast. While driving, stop by Pompej and visit the ruins of the city that was swept away by a volcano eruption nearby Vesuvio.
Positano – This beautiful town on Positano on the Amalfi coast is among the most popular. It’s clear why once you reach it. Lemon trees, pastel homes built into the rock and a glorious view makes this a special area to travel to. Excellent restaurants catering local dishes and the well-known Limoncello along alongside Turquoise ocean water is sure to make you want relax there.
Where to stay: Villa Gabrisa is a charming, family owned hotel and offers private rooms that have nothing in the way of amenities, aside from the stunning view. The hotel also offers a restaurant.http://www.villagabrisa.it/
The glamorous luxurious hotel Il Sirenuse is where celebs put up at. The charming hotel also has a michelin starred restaurant; La Sponda. In high season it is nearly impossible to secure an appointment at the last minute. You’ll need to reserve well in advance. Alternatively come here for a leisurely lunch and indulge in the fresh and light menu and fantastic view.http://sirenuse.it/en
Another restaurant with a spectacular panoramic view is Capitano that specializes in seafood. The menu is large, service is slow but the food is good.http://www.hotelmontemare.it/
The Palazzo restaurant in the Murat Hotel is a different Michelin star restaurant that is set on the charming terrace. This is one of the few restaurants in Positano without a view however the food is amazing and the service is lovely.http://www.palazzomurat.it/de/restaurant-im-positano-al-palazzo
Capri Capri From Positano take ferry and explore the stunning island of Capri, which is uber-charming but crowded with day-trippers. You can take a boat trip and visit the numerous grottos, including the famous grotta azurra unless you visit Capri during the summer. In peak season, the estimated wait time is 4 hours and no, it is not worth the effort. You can ride the train to Capri’s center , or for a fitness challenge, walk up. In the city’s center, go to the Carthusia perfume shop. Legend has it he is the father of Carthusian Monastery of Saint James picked a flower arrangement for the upcoming visit of Queen Giobanna. After the flowers were taken aside, he noticed that the water was infused with an unidentified scent and the Capri’s first perfume was developed.
